Types of therapy offered

Therapy should be as unique as you and your life experiences.  I work to gain an understanding of each client and then pull from a variety of therapy modalities to create a customized approach and plan.

Knowledge is power and I help people understand why different types of therapy are recommended and how they help change the brain and impact thinking and emotions.

EMDR

EMDR  (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) has become a front line treatment for trauma, but also is becoming recognized as a valuable way to address other stressors such as anxiety, depression, OCD, phobias and more.

EMDR is well studied and covered by insurances.  It sounds kind of weird, but taps into how our brains work and helps us get "unstuck" much more efficiently than just talk therapy alone.

It's powerful and should be used by someone with significant training--it's not something you should download an app and DIY!  Likewise, people should be sure they are working with a therapist who is EMDRIA trained to ensure a  more thorough education vs a clinician with limited exposure and knowledge.

I am EMDRIA level 2 trained and offer it as part of usual therapy as well as intensives that allow for more time for more time efficient processing.  It's effective online as well as in person!

CBT, DBT, ACT, Gottman (couples) & Attachment

Figuring out what type of therapy you need can be overwhelmig and quite frankly, I believe most people respond best to a mix of research driven therapies.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) build upon each other and each have their uses and are sometimes utilized with EMDR.  People need an experienced clinician who can weave these modalities into therapy that works best for them.

Gottman therapy is a model used for couples therapy, but I find to also be useful in other types of relationship work as well.

Attachment is a theory that informs all that I do since it is the building blocks of relationships and how we view and respond to the world.
